U.S. Representative Becca Balint, who represents Vermont’s at-large district in Congress, addressed several national political issues in a series of posts on her social media account this week.

On January 22, 2026, Balint marked the anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade by criticizing former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers. She wrote, “The anniversary of Roe v. Wade is a reminder that Trump and Republicans have stripped women of having control over their own bodies. When Democrats regain control in Congress, autonomy and justice must be restored to women.”

Balint continued her commentary on January 23, 2026, focusing on Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s actions following the 2020 presidential election. In her post she stated, “Today, Jack Smith laid out his airtight investigation into Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election. He was clear: the facts are the facts. The law is the law. He will not be intimidated – and we will not accept anything short of the truth for Americans.”

Later that day, Balint criticized Trump’s approach toward Jack Smith and drew parallels to his conduct during the events surrounding January 6th. She wrote, “Trump is using the same old playbook on Jack Smith that he used on January 6th: target, inflame, and then deny responsibility. But we see through it and we will not let him renegotiate reality.”

Balint has served as Vermont’s at-large representative in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Peter Welch. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968, Balint resides in Brattleboro and holds a BA from Smith College.
