Bryant University defeated the University of Vermont men’s lacrosse team 11-8 on March 21, after scoring the final four goals in a Saturday night matchup at Beirne Stadium. Zach Amend led Bryant with four goals, including the last two of the game.
The result brings both teams to a record of 3-4 overall and 1-1 in league play. The win marks Bryant’s first victory over Vermont as league opponents, ending a four-game winning streak for the Catamounts in this series.
Bryant started strong with an early three-goal lead, but Vermont responded quickly with two goals within just over three minutes. The teams traded leads throughout the game, with Vermont briefly taking its first lead early in the third quarter. However, Bryant regained momentum in the fourth quarter as Caden Lennon and Owen West scored to put them ahead before Amend completed his hat trick and added another goal in the final seconds.
Vermont’s faceoff specialist won 16 out of 23 draws during the game and now has won nearly 65 percent of his draws this season. He also led all players with ten ground balls. Despite holding a 42-30 advantage in shots, Vermont was unable to hold off Bryant’s late surge.
After the game, Head Coach Chris Feifs said, “Hats off to Bryant for defending their home turf tonight and executing for 60 minutes. We will learn from this game and prepare for NJIT.”
Looking ahead, Vermont will host NJIT at Virtue Field on Saturday, March 28 at noon. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Youth Day activities are planned before the game, including inflatables and giveaways from Healthy Living. All youth under age twelve can receive complimentary tickets by visiting the ticket office on game day.
