Rep. Becca Balint, who represents Vermont’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several national and international issues in a series of posts on January 12, 2026.

In her first post, Balint commented on the independence of the Federal Reserve and recent scrutiny directed at its chair: “The Fed is meant to be independent and data-driven, so our nation’s monetary policy isn’t subject to the whim of a party. I am grateful to Jerome Powell for taking that charge seriously and standing up for what’s right in the face of this senseless partisan investigation.” (January 12, 2026).

Later that day, Balint responded to news of an arson attack at Beth Israel synagogue in Mississippi: “I am horrified by the arson attack at Beth Israel synagogue in Mississippi, the same synagogue that was firebombed by the KKK in 1967 for its civil rights advocacy. This attack is a painful reminder that hatred and antisemitism are not relics of the past. We must be unequivocal” (January 12, 2026).

Balint also expressed support for demonstrators abroad: “I applaud the brave protesters in Iran who are demanding freedom and dignity in the face of violent repression. We must listen and stand with them as they fight for their future.” (January 12, 2026).

Balint has served as Vermont’s at-large representative since replacing Peter Welch in 2023. She previously served in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021 and holds a BA from Smith College. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968, she currently resides in Brattleboro.
