Rep. Becca Balint, who represents Vermont’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on social media between December 15 and 16, 2025, addressing holiday wishes, government policy disputes, and national tragedy.
On December 15, Balint shared a message marking Hanukkah: “Happy Hanukkah from my family to yours! To all those celebrating, I wish you joy, strength, love, and comfort as you light the first candle of Hanukkah. This is a time to be grateful for our closest loved ones. May light always overcome darkness.”
Later that day, she commented on recent Congressional activity following a prolonged government shutdown: “The government shut down for 43 days because Republicans chose billionaire tax breaks over American health care. Now they’ve slapped together a bill to convince Americans they ‘care.’ No ACA tax credit extension in sight. They’re not fooling anyone.” The statement reflects ongoing partisan disagreements over federal spending priorities and health care legislation.
On December 16, Balint responded to the news of Rob and Michele Reiner’s murder with criticism of the President’s response: “As the nation mourns the tragic murder of Rob and Michele Reiner, the President can’t even muster a single word of condolence. No empathy. No humanity. Just cruelty, unapologetic and relentless. To the family and loved ones of Rob and Michele Reiner, I send my deepest”.
Balint has served as Vermont’s at-large congressional representative since 2023 after succeeding Peter Welch. She previously held office in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021 and resides in Brattleboro. Born in Heidelberg in 1968, Balint graduated from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001.
