Rep. Becca Balint, U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, has posted a series of statements on social media addressing current military and national security issues.
On April 7, 2026, Balint highlighted the impact of overseas deployments on both service members and their families: “It’s important to remember that if our military is overseas, not only are they living with uncertainty, but their loved ones back home are too. I thank the Vermont Air National Guard for their service and hope for their safe return ASAP. This war of choice needs to end now.”
Later that day, she addressed Admiral Correll directly regarding potential presidential orders: “Admiral Correll, it is your responsibility to refuse illegal orders should the President order nuclear strikes. Millions of lives are at stake.” (April 7, 2026).
On April 8, 2026, Balint criticized former President Donald Trump’s proposed defense spending: “Trump wants to give the military industrial complex an additional $1.5 TRILLION at the expense of childcare, healthcare, and supports for working families here at home. Not the way I’d celebrate National Public Health Week. Stay loud.”
Balint succeeded Peter Welch in Congress after serving in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. She was born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968 and currently resides in Brattleboro. Balint holds a BA from Smith College.
