Rep. Becca Balint, U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district, addressed several national issues in a series of posts on January 7, 2026. Her statements focused on the aftermath of a deadly shooting in Minneapolis, criticism of immigration enforcement actions, and ongoing debates about health care policy.

In her first post, Balint wrote: “I will fight with everything I have to bring justice for today’s deadly Minneapolis shooting and ICE’s horrific violence.” (January 7, 2026).

Later that evening, she criticized federal spending priorities under the Trump administration: “The Trump administration is willing to pour billions into foreign wars while Americans lose access to health care at home. Extending the ACA tax credits saves lives here—and that should be our priority.” (January 7, 2026).

Balint also commented on legislative activity in Congress: “Millions of Americans risk losing health care. But don’t worry—Republicans are busy debating showerhead legislation on the Floor right now. Give me a break.” (January 7, 2026).

Balint has represented Vermont’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress since replacing Peter Welch in 2023. Before her election to Congress, she served in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021 and holds a BA from Smith College. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968, Balint currently resides in Brattleboro.
