Rep. Becca Balint, who represents Vermont’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of updates on her official Twitter account on April 16, 2026, addressing immigration policy, diplomatic relations with Canada, and economic concerns.
In her first post of the day, Balint commented on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals: “Trump is trying to terminate TPS for the 350,000+ Haitian nationals in our country. Forcing them to return to Haiti would put lives at risk. I just voted YES with @RepPressley & @RepLauraGillen to force the admin to extend this status & it passed! The Senate should do the same.” This statement refers to ongoing debates over TPS protections for Haitians living in the United States.
Later that day, Balint welcomed Canada’s new ambassador: “So proud to welcome Canada’s new Ambassador to the U.S., @MarkDWiseman, to the Capitol yesterday! Looking forward to working together to continue strengthening the relationship between Vermonters and Canadians.” The message highlights efforts toward maintaining strong cross-border ties between Vermont and Canada.
In her final tweet of April 16, Balint addressed economic inequality and criticized recent administration policies: “This has always been an administration focused on the very top, and everyone else just can’t make the math work right now. Where was any acknowledgement of that from Russ Vought yesterday?”
Balint has served as Vermont’s at-large representative since 2023 after succeeding Peter Welch. She previously held office in the Vermont Senate from 2017 through 2021. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968 and currently residing in Brattleboro, she earned a BA from Smith College in 2001.
