Rep. Becca Balint, U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, has recently used her social media platform to comment on economic inequality and federal policy decisions.
On July 29, 2025, Balint wrote, “A country where one person can become this rich should have zero homelessness, zero hunger, and the best education. Our current reality is not normal. We do not have to accept it.”
The following day, on July 30, 2025, she urged legislative action by stating, “Congress must send this to Trump’s desk.”
Balint continued her commentary on July 31, 2025, referencing tax policy changes during the previous administration: “The Trump administration shut down Direct File, a popular program that allowed millions of people to file their taxes for free, directly with the IRS. Why? Trump wants huge corporations like TurboTax and their CEOs to get richer and richer by ripping working class people off.”
Balint has represented Vermont in Congress since replacing Peter Welch in 2023. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968 and currently residing in Brattleboro at age 54, Balint earned her BA from Smith College in 2001.
