Rep. Becca Balint, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, used her social media platform on April 15, 2026, to criticize recent Republican fiscal and administrative actions and express concern over the treatment of individuals convicted in connection with attempts to overturn the government.
In a post made on Tax Day, Balint stated: “Last year, Trump and Republicans passed their Big Ugly Budget and said you’d get big tax refunds. Well, it’s Tax Day and folks are getting 65% less than what they were told. Yet another broken promise.” (April 15, 2026)
Later that day, she addressed actions by Russ Vought, former Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Trump: “Russ Vought has unlawfully and vindictively cut federal funds from states that didn’t vote for Trump in the last presidential election. I’m not angry because he’s taking Congress’s power away – it’s because he’s taking power away from the American people.” (April 15, 2026)
Balint also commented on recent developments regarding individuals convicted for attempting to overturn the government: “Just so we’re clear: these people were convicted of trying to overthrow our government. I’m with @RepRaskin. This is shocking and unacceptable.” (April 15, 2026)
Balint replaced Peter Welch as Vermont’s at-large congressional representative in 2023 after previously serving in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968, she resides in Brattleboro and graduated from Smith College with a BA in 2001.
