Rep. Becca Balint, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, has recently used her social media platform to criticize Republican policies and highlight issues affecting service members and the city of Washington, D.C.

On August 9, 2025, Balint posted: “The Republican playbook is simply lie, gaslight, repeat. No amount of lying will change the reality that, because of their votes, hospitals will close and people are going to die without care.”

Two days later, on August 11, she addressed the treatment of transgender military personnel: “Trans service members in the Air Force are being forced out with no retirement benefits. Utterly disgraceful way to treat people who have served our country for nearly 20 years. This does not make us safer.”

That same day, Balint commented on congressional actions related to Washington D.C.: “Rather than fearmonger about crime in DC (crime rates have fallen sharply in the city), Trump should pressure Speaker Johnson to release the $1 billion in taxpayer money that Congress blocked. This is a complete authoritarian power grab of the capital city.”

Balint has been an active member of Congress since replacing Peter Welch in 2023 and previously served in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. She was born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968 and currently resides in Brattleboro. In addition to her legislative experience, she holds a BA from Smith College.
