Rep. Becca Balint, U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, has posted a series of statements on her Twitter account addressing recent international and domestic events.
On January 3, 2026, Balint wrote: “The kidnapping of Maduro and the attack on Venezuela are blatant violations of international law and the Constitution. Republicans must stop enabling lawlessness and stand up now.”
Later that day, she continued her criticism by stating: “Kidnapping a foreign leader invites other countries to do the same. The Trump administration just handed China and Russia permission on a silver platter, risking global stability and putting American lives in jeopardy.” This tweet referenced concerns about potential international repercussions following actions attributed to the Trump administration.
On January 6, 2026, marking the anniversary of the events at the U.S. Capitol in 2021, Balint reflected: “Five years ago today, Trump encouraged his supporters to attack Congress, the Capitol, and our democracy. He betrayed his oath and the nation. I mourn for the lives lost and for those injured in the violent attack. Today is a solemn reminder that we must not become numb to”
Balint has represented Vermont’s at-large congressional district since succeeding Peter Welch in 2023. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968, Balint currently resides in Brattleboro and holds a BA from Smith College.
