Rep. Becca Balint, U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, addressed several issues on her Twitter account on January 7, 2026, including concerns about health care policy and law enforcement actions.
In a post from the afternoon of January 7, Balint raised alarms about the potential impact of expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits on Vermont businesses. She wrote, “Expired ACA tax credits risk crushing Vermont’s 78,000 small businesses – the backbone of our towns. There is no reason to inflict this suffering on our people and our economy.” (January 7, 2026).
Later that day, Balint commented on legal accountability with a brief statement: “Wait, here’s a thought – don’t break the law, and then you wouldn’t have to worry about it. “ (January 7, 2026).
In an evening post referencing recent events in Minneapolis involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), she expressed solidarity with affected individuals and communities. Balint stated, “My heart is with the victim and the Minneapolis community. This is not the first time ICE officials have used lethal force despite the absence of a clear threat. I stand with Senator Smith – ICE needs to leave.” (January 7, 2026).
Balint has served in Congress since replacing Peter Welch in 2023 and previously held office in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. Born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968, she resides in Brattleboro and graduated from Smith College in 2001.
