Rep. Becca Balint, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, addressed several national issues in a series of posts on December 5, 2025.

In her first statement of the day, Balint wrote: “Secretary Hegseth and anyone else who commits war crimes must be held accountable.” (posted at 19:34 UTC).

Shortly after, she commented on recent developments in the streaming industry: “This deal is deeply concerning. Netflix will take over HBO Max, which could raise prices and leave you with fewer streaming options. It will also almost certainly harm local movie theaters that are already struggling.

Working people cannot afford more corporate consolidation.” (posted at 19:48 UTC).

Later that evening, Balint turned her attention to immigration enforcement practices: “ICE is failing to address the medical needs of the people they detain. Inhumane and shameful.” (posted at 21:04 UTC).

Balint succeeded Peter Welch as Vermont’s sole representative in Congress and previously served in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. She was born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968 and currently resides in Brattleboro. She earned a BA from Smith College in 2001.
