Rep. Becca Balint, who represents Vermont’s at-large district in the U.S. Congress, has used her social media platform to criticize recent policy decisions related to food assistance, tax filing programs, and healthcare deals.
On November 6, 2025, Balint addressed concerns over federal food assistance funding by stating: “Trump wanted to get away with starving people for his political gain but this isn’t a game. It’s real people’s lives. Kids will miss meals. People need SNAP funded now.”
Three days later, on November 9, 2025, she commented on changes to IRS tax filing programs: “Under Biden, the IRS launched a program for people to file their taxes FOR FREE (finally!) Well, Trump ended it because TurboTax donated $1 million to him. This White House is just one big grift while the rest of us pay more for everything.”
Balint continued her critique on November 10, 2025 by opposing a proposed deal affecting healthcare: “This ‘deal’ is a bad deal for Americans. These pinky promises from Republicans won’t save anyone’s healthcare. We can’t just surrender and leave working people worse off. It’ll be a no from me.”
Balint began serving in Congress in 2023 after replacing Peter Welch and previously held office in the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021. She was born in Heidelberg, West Germany in 1968 and currently resides in Brattleboro at age 54. Balint holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College.
