The majority of stories I hear are from people who are struggling with the rent increases and their incomes

The majority of stories I hear are from people who are struggling with the rent increases and their incomes - the disparity between the two.... If you're lucky enough to have a voucher, you're in affordable housing. If you don't, your housing is not affordable." -- Madeline Roberts CVOEO's Vermont Tenants Advocate

Finding affordable, well-maintained rental housing is nearly impossible in some parts of Vermont. And some tenants who manage to find rental houses or apartments experience poor conditions, rent hikes, eviction notices, and more. Meanwhile landlords look to recoup losses sustained during the eviction moratorium enacted during the COVID pandemic and face other challenges. Over the course of two shows, Vermont Public's Vermont Edition explored the rental housing crisis from the landlords' and tenants' perspectives. Hear more from Madeline and callers from around the state at at https://www.vermontpublic.org/.../vermonts-rental-housing... (and for the landlords' perspective: https://www.vermontpublic.org/.../vermonts-rental-housing...)
