Manufactured homes are an important part of the Vermont housing ecosystem, with around 8% of Vermonters living in manufactured homes. Manufactured home communities are disproportionately occupied by very low income residents, and thus provide homeownership opportunities to folks who might otherwise struggle to find housing in the tight Vermont market. The Legislature recently appropriated a total of $5 million in extra funds to support Vermonters living in manufactured homes. $1.25 million of this will expand the Manufactured Housing Down Payment Program run by Champlain Housing Trust, with the remainder of the funds allocated to home and park repairs and improvements.
