Our housing shortage is a complex issue, but one challenge is something advocates have seen coming for a long time- an aging demographic and a shrinking labor force. A shortage of people working in construction is another barrier to building at the rate we need. Causes for this shortage range from lack of affordable housing for young people, and a shift in our education structure away from encouraging students to enter trades.
