The national housing shortage has homelessness rising in many cities, including LA, notorious for its large houseless population. Los Angeles' newest mayor, Mayor Karen Bass, has declared homelessness a state of emergency, and has launched an initiative to move the over 40 thousand people without housing into hotels.
