Community-based organizations often challenged in their efforts to reach different people for input beyond the residents who are independently consistently active in public events- and it is the people who are missed who are most often adversely impacted by the policies they had no say in enacting. But for low-income community members, time is a limited resource, and events like town hall meetings, public forums, and other forms of civic discourse can be very time consuming. This Shelterforce article highlights both the need to pay community members for their time, and successful projects that have.
