Early in January, Graduate student Ben Ogden completed the FIS Tour de Ski in Italy. Ogden placed 13th overall in the grueling seven-event and nine-day competition. His 13th place finish is the best-ever by an American male in the event.

Paula Moltzan Helps End a 52-Year Drought and Posts Career-Best World Cup Result
Former Catamount Paula Moltzan finished second in the slalom for her first-ever World Cup podium in December. The one-two finish with U.S. Alpine Ski teammate Mikaela Shiffrin marked the first time two American women shared a World Cup slalom podium since 1971.

Bjorn Westervelt is First American to Win International Biathlon Race Since 2017
Bjorn Westervelt ‘24 won the first international race for the U.S. in biathlon since 2017 at the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. Westervelt crossed the line 48 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher in the Men’s 12.5-Kilometer Pursuit.

Goalie Ellie Simmons '26 was selected as one of 23 players for the U.S.'s Women's Hockey team in the 2023 Lake Placid games. While the college season conflicts with the FISU World University Games, Simmons plans on redshirting her first season for the Catamounts.
