The Vermont Catamounts completed the first day of the 2026 NCAA Skiing Championships on March 11, finishing in 11th place with a total of 41.5 points at Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center in Park City, Utah. Colorado led the standings after day one with 137 points.
The event is significant as it marks the beginning of the national collegiate skiing competition, where teams from across the country compete for top honors. The Catamounts’ performance sets the stage for their efforts in upcoming events during the championship.
Senior Timmermann achieved Vermont’s best result of the day by placing 15th in the women’s giant slalom, recording a two-run time of 2:08.00 after an initial run of 1:05.52. This was her third appearance at the NCAA Championships. First-year competitor made her debut at nationals and finished 24th with a combined time of 2:10.75. Montana State University’s Justine Lamontagne won the women’s giant slalom title with a total time of 2:03.98.
On the men’s side, both Gillberg and Lindenmayer made their NCAA Championships debuts for Vermont. Gillberg secured a top-20 finish by placing 19th overall with a combined time of 1:57.54, including a second run that ranked as the tenth fastest in his field at 58.03 seconds. Lindenmayer finished in 24th place with a two-run total time of 1:58.40.
Looking ahead, Nordic skiing events will begin with both men’s and women’s 7.5-kilometer classic races at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah, scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with live streaming available on NCAA.com.
The opening results provide momentum for Vermont as they continue to compete against other top collegiate ski programs throughout the remainder of the championships.
