Vermont defeated NJIT 14-5 on March 28, remaining undefeated at Virtue Field and securing a milestone for its head coach, who tied the program’s all-time wins record with his 75th career victory.
The win strengthens Vermont’s position in conference play, improving their record to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in America East. The game showcased strong performances from multiple players and highlighted the team’s continued dominance on their home field.
The Catamounts opened scoring early in the first quarter with Frattaroli netting his fifteenth goal of the season. After NJIT briefly tied the game, Vermont responded with a decisive run, leading by two goals after one quarter. In the second quarter, Vermont broke away by scoring six unanswered goals to take a commanding halftime lead of 10-2.
Frattaroli led all scorers with five goals—his second-highest single-game total—while Toll contributed two goals and three assists. Josloff and Reiter each added two goals; Zhao scored once while collecting nine ground balls and winning sixteen out of nineteen faceoffs. Decker finished with a goal and two assists, Whitaker added another goal and an assist, while Vermont’s goalkeeper made five saves for a save percentage of over sixty percent. Overall, Vermont outshot NJIT forty-two to twenty-five.
“Overall, really proud of the guys for a tough conference win today,” said head coach Chris Feifs. “Any time we get a win on Virtue, it’s a gift, and today with the weather and a lot of motivation, I thought our guys took care of business. Just overall proud of the effort.”
Looking ahead, Vermont will host No. 3 Princeton on April 4 in its Rally Against Cancer game presented by Mascoma Bank. Fans attending can receive special giveaways while supporting cancer research through donations linked to attendance.
