Vermont lost 10-2 to Fairfield on March 11 during the final game of a three-game homestand at Virtue Field. The match was also designated as the team’s Pride Game and Spread Respect game.
The result leaves Vermont with a record of 4-4, while Fairfield improves to 5-3. The Catamounts were held scoreless in the second half as Fairfield scored six unanswered goals to secure the win.
Head Coach Sarah Dalton Graddock said, “Credit to Fairfield for showing up, executing, and getting the W. We need to be a lot more focused as today was not a great representation of who we are. Luckily, we have a quick turnaround with conference play on Saturday.”
Fairfield’s Charlotte Loughlin opened scoring in the first quarter, and Vermont responded later in the period with their own goal while playing woman-up. By halftime, Fairfield led 4-2 after Kit Zanelli scored just before the break. In the second half, Vermont was unable to find the net as Fairfield extended its lead.
Haggerty and Erskine were Vermont’s two goalscorers in Wednesday’s contest. Other notable performances included team highs in draw controls and caused turnovers, as well as shots on goal and ground balls by various players.
Looking ahead, Vermont will begin America East conference play on Saturday, March 14 against Bryant at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island. The game is scheduled for noon and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
