Rep. Becca Balint, a U.S. Congress member representing Vermont's at-large district since 2023, has shared several statements on social media addressing pressing political and historical issues. Her comments span topics from protecting democracy to honoring Holocaust victims and critiquing federal policy changes.
On January 27, 2025, Rep. Balint expressed concern about the state of democracy in light of former President Donald Trump's influence. She stated, "So many of us are looking for actions to take to protect our democracy in the face of Trump. We don’t know where to start. Here’s one thing you can do right now."
The following day, January 28, she commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day by reflecting on her personal connection to the tragedy and its broader implications. She wrote, "Six million Jews, one of them my grandfather, and millions of others were murdered by Nazis. On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the innocent lives taken and families destroyed. Never again means countering any and all antisemitism and hate taking root. The work is not over."
Later that day, Rep. Balint criticized a directive attributed to Donald Trump regarding federal grants and loans being halted due to their perceived promotion of certain policies. She commented on this issue by stating: "Trump ordered all federal grants and loans to be halted because they 'advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies.' Disaster relief is NOT 'woke'. Small business loans are NOT 'marxist'."
