VERAP to help pay rent and utilities during the pandemic

Recent news about the surprise end of VERAP (Vermont Emergency Rental Assistance Program) has worried renters across the state, many of whom have relied on VERAP to help pay rent and utilities during the pandemic. State officials suddenly announced earlier this month that VERAP had begun to run out of money and would begin to wind down, leaving many recipients concerned about how they would pay their rent in its absence.

A recent press conference in Montpelier, organized by advocates from Vermont Legal Aid, Vermont Interfaith Action, and Rights & Democracy VT , called on state officials to develop a plan to keep vulnerable Vermonters housed throughout the winter.

If you are affected by VERAP ending, you can contact Vermont Tenants (vttenants@cvoeo.org / 802-864-0099) for advice and support.
