Rep. Becca Balint, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Vermont’s at-large district since 2023, recently shared her views on Social Security and the Equal Rights Amendment through a series of tweets. Balint has been an advocate for workers' rights and gender equality throughout her political career.
On December 10, 2024, Rep. Balint tweeted about Social Security, stating that it is not a handout but rather "the money each of us as workers have earned." "Social Security is not a hand out. It’s the money each of us as workers have earned."
Later that day, she addressed President Biden directly in another tweet urging him to publish the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). She emphasized the importance of using power for good to enshrine equal rights into the U.S. Constitution: "President Biden, publish the Equal Rights Amendment. Let’s use our power for good and cement equal rights into our constitution."
On December 11, 2024, Rep. Balint reiterated her call for action regarding the ERA by highlighting that President Biden could publish it with just his signature: "President Biden can publish the Equal Rights Amendment with just a signature. With a stroke of a pen. We need to use power when we have it. Only then will people have faith in elected officials and in democracy."
