Becca Balint, a current U.S. Congress representative for Vermont’s at-large district, has expressed strong views on several pertinent legislation and political events via her social media platform. Balint, who took office in 2023 to succeed Peter Welch and previously served in the Vermont Senate, shared her perspectives on April 10, 2025, through a series of tweets discussing voting legislation and tariff impacts.
On April 10, 2025, Representative Balint communicated disapproval regarding the SAVE Act, describing it as a "blatant voter suppression for tens of millions of women and trans Americans." She made it clear that the legislation should be alarming to the public and stated her intent to oppose it: "I'm voting NO."
In a conversation with journalist Audie Cornish on the same day, Balint criticized the impact of Trump's tariffs on small businesses. She asserted that small businesses face challenges in planning, investing, and hiring due to an unpredictable policy environment. Balint conveyed a strong sentiment about the approach, saying it reveals "contempt for working people": "Small businesses can’t deal with the 'on again, off again' approach."
Continuing her critique of the former president’s actions, Balint highlighted an instance of alleged market manipulation involving stock purchase recommendations ahead of a tariff retraction. She described the situation as: "There's a name for this: market manipulation. And it’s illegal. He knows exactly what he's doing."
Becca Balint graduated from Smith College in 2001 with a BA. She was born in Heidelberg, West Germany, in 1968, and currently resides in Brattleboro.
