Thriving Communities issued the following announcement.
Rents across the US have rapidly risen during the pandemic. According to this article in NPR, some cities are seeing rises of over 30%. High rent costs have long been a problem in Vermont, in part due to the shortage of rental units in the state. A recent Washington Post article estimated that rents in Chittenden and Washington counties are up 5% since 2019, with Addison County seeing an increase of 13.5%. Anecdotal evidence suggests some Vermonters are seeing even higher rises. Laws in Vermont govern how rent rises can be imposed on existing tenants. If you're a Vermont tenant concerned about a potential rent rise, call the Vermont Tenants hotline at 802-864-0099 for advice!
