Rep. Becca Balint, a U.S. Congress member representing Vermont's at-large district since 2023, has voiced serious concerns in a series of tweets regarding a constitutional crisis and issues of corruption in the federal government. Balint, 54 years old and born in Heidelberg, West Germany, succeeded Peter Welch and has been actively involved in current political discourse.
On April 15, 2025, Balint remarked on a significant ruling by the Supreme Court of the United States, stating, "The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that the United States government must return Kilmar Abrego Garcia home from prison in El Salvador. Donald Trump is blatantly ignoring and denying the ruling. Yes, we are in a constitutional crisis."
Following this, on April 16, 2025, Balint shared her concerns about the current administration saying, "The most corrupt people in America are in charge of the federal government. And taxpayers will pay the price. It's just grift after grift with the Trump Administration."
Later the same day, Balint reiterated the urgent call for action regarding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, expressing her stance on due process and legal rights, asserting, "Kilmar Abrego Garcia must be released and brought home to Maryland. He is innocent. No government can snatch people off the street and ship them to prison without due process. It should terrify us all. I'm thankful @ChrisVanHollen is headed there to demand his release." Balint has an educational background from Smith College, earning her BA in 2001 and resides in Brattleboro.
