As we seek ways to update land-use regulations and zoning to allow for more homes to be built, it's important to be intentional about the type of homes, where they are, and who has access to them. In Southern California, deregulation has successfully added more homes - but the higher-priced homes come at the expense of working-class neighborhoods where land is often cheaper to buy, leading to gentrification and ultimately reducing housing opportunity for low-income residents and communities of color.
